Not many motorcycle riders make use of my car wash. Should I hand out wetsuits when they drive in?

Either a wetsuit or a bar of soap! Lol

What is the proper way to hand wash a car?

i have a brand new vehicle and every time i wash i see new swirl marks. How do i prevent this. i also hate car washes...What is the proper way to hand wash a car?
When I was younger I used to wash cars professionally. The main thing is to keep the car wet the entire time and use soap made specifically for washing cars. Never, and I can't stress this enough, never use dish soap or household cleaners like **** n' Span or Mr. Clean. They have degreasing agents in them that will strip any wax off of your car and can also damage rubber and plastic. Use a washing mitt or sponge made for cars. Wet the entire car top to bottom. Wash the roof and down to the door line on both sides, including windows and mirrors. Rinse off the soap and make sure the hood and trunk areas are wet. Wash the hood and trunk. Rinse, and wet the entire car down again. Wash half of one side and one wheel. Rinse and wash the other half and wheel. Do the same on the other side then do the front and back. Spray entire car down again. Dry with a chamois- top to bottom. On the hood, roof, and trunk use the chamois flat and drag it across the car. Kind of like how you throw a sheet on a bed. Real ones work best, but are very expensive and if not used often enough will dry out and rot. Synthetic ones work fairly well and are machine washable. Make sure to wring the chamois dry from time to time. Just make sure you keep the car wet at all times until you are ready to dry and if you drop the wash mitt on the ground, rinse it out very well to get rid of any small rocks etc. What is the proper way to hand wash a car?
You may not like car washes but the ';touchless'; car washes are great for cleaning the grit off of your car before a hand wash. You don't want to rub abrasive particles around on your car finish by hand so you need to make sure they are not there before you hand wash it.
No matter how you wash a car thee paint will get fine scratches in it. Best way is to hose the car off really good before you wash it use a good clean mitt I like the micro fiber over the wool witch ever don't let it get dirty( drop it on the ground). And get some good polishing wax and wax it once a month helps protect the paint and keeps it looking new.
On a new car, or a fresh paint job, I use a section of hose with the end cut off. With this hose, I keep a constant flow of water where I'm washing. I also use a lamb's wool mitt, as this seems to lift the grit off the surface. Frequently rinse whatever you use to wash with in your favorite car wash. I use **** and Span. I don't like the automatic car washes, touch less or not, because of the ';wax'; that they usually put in one of the cycles.
Use those new ';wool mitts';, they work great. But don't try to use them on tires or a convertible top, instead use a soft sponge for those. And make sure you use a product called (very simply) ';Car Wash';, sold at any auto parts store. A good polish, then wax, I rec. McGuiars products, esp. Yellow Wax #28, AFTER you polish. Polishing is very important, even for a brand new car. Do it. You'll love it.

PS: OMG!!! NEVER use S;pic and Span on a car!!!
You need a buffer,a grinder witha buffer wheel that will get rid of them wax circles http://mothers.com the best cleaning products going. They also carry Mothers at the auto store.

What's the best way to rinse a car (between washing) so it dries spot free - without hand drying it?

- rinsing and driving doesn't seem to get the water off before it spots- my drives are not fast freeway trips.... Is there some type of rinse aid you can add to the rinse water? What's the best way to rinse a car (between washing) so it dries spot free - without hand drying it?
I have a water softner at my house so i hook the hose up to the softened side of the water outlet. (as most of the outside hose bibs do not use the softened water as it will kill plants) and it works great. There are also some softeners you can buy for car washing like the Mr Clean products and McGuires i thinks sells one also. they both screw on to the end of your hose. What's the best way to rinse a car (between washing) so it dries spot free - without hand drying it?
Try a little Jet Dry, the rinse additive for your dishwasher.

Works well.
Take the spray nozzle off your hose and under medium water pressure let the water pour out of the house without splattering. The water will stick together and sheet off instead of beading up on the car.

  • Are automated car washes more likely to harm my cars exterior;then by washing my car by hand???

I have a 2001 Toyota Camry....ThanksAre automated car washes more likely to harm my cars exterior;then by washing my car by hand???
Any time you have automated equipment doing something like this, there is a chance for damage. Most places maintain and upgrade their equipment regularly though, so this is somewhat unlikely. The higher end, slightly more expensive car washes (where they actually have people who dry your car by hand, etc.)normally have the best equipment and do the best job.. but personally, I like the ';no touch'; automatics that don't use brushes, just high pressure water...then I dry the car myself by hand. Every once in a while I will wash AND wax the car myself by hand. Remember, no one will take better care of your car than you will. Just be sure to always use clean pads/ towels when you are doing it yourself, don't forget the interior and the tires, and make sure the car is totally clean before waxing or polishing; otherwise, you're grinding dirt into the finish.

Hope this info helps. Are automated car washes more likely to harm my cars exterior;then by washing my car by hand???
There are brushless carwashes and those are considered totally safe for most cars. The brushes are what cause the scratching, without a brush, your finish should be fine.
the paint on your car is already six years old and so the clear-coat has had a lot of sun baked dirt and etc.-----just get a bucket of cold water and some blue dawn and soap and clean that car by your own hands---you will be proud of your wash-job when done and you have avoided high cost wash... if you can keep it out of the sun then well and good ----that's what I think........
A lot of automatic car washes can cause small scratches over time.

You're better off washing it by hand yourself. That way, you'll also be able to examine your car in detail, and spot any dents or rust spot, and get them fixed immediately.
You would trust your car to and auto car wash? I have never used an Auto Car wash. It's either by hand or with the spray washers. Even then I only use the spray washers in the winter time. Hand washing allows you the time to look at the paint and wash in spots that you normally would not get with the auto wash.
I think so but depends on how you wash your car by hand. I always wash mine my hand.
Hand Car wash goes a little more delicate on the car. However, for an 01 Camry, I would just wash it at home, if I was that concerned about the body.

Hand Car Wash can cost $40 and up.

What do you use more, your hands or the car wash?

do you use the car wash on your car more, or do you do it yourself? i dont have a car so i have no answer! :DWhat do you use more, your hands or the car wash?
I do it myself cause it turns out better and it's fun. What do you use more, your hands or the car wash?
I use the drive-thru car wash
I do it myself. I think it's soo fun! :)
    I prefer car wash

Wash your car with your hands yourself or thru the car wash?

i have very talented hands my dear.... you would be soo amazed ......i'll even wash you with my hands tooo. LOL ;-))Wash your car with your hands yourself or thru the car wash?
If you're short of time, go do a car wash.

But, if you care about your car a lot more and want it to be perfectly done and of course you have the time, do it with your hands.

I got 0/10 skills in cars, no knowledge and I don't even know how to drive, I barely know how to play Need for Speed, yeah I suck at cars.

But it's Common Sense.Wash your car with your hands yourself or thru the car wash?
Hands for sure because then I will be sure to clean the inside too as the car wash cannot do that! Plus I get the satisfaction of having done something for the day!
nothing beats the good old hand skill...... i do it all myself with a sponge and a hosepipe... good exercise as well as some value time in the sun . cmon folks ! i know technology has improved but doesn't mean it replaces handwash
    both.

    can you please answer mine?

I am opening a bikini car wash for RVs. Should I have a cardiologist on hand? It will be AARP approved.?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh so that's what the girls mean when they come up and ask, ';Do you want your fluids top off?'; I noticed a man just nodding slowly and drooling while she untied her bikini...... I just didn't get it until now.

Exactly why is it that men over 60 buy RV's. Is this really heart smart? Not only do you need a cardiologist....... I'd bring in a proctologist too.I am opening a bikini car wash for RVs. Should I have a cardiologist on hand? It will be AARP approved.?

Absolutely! I'll head over, where are you doing this? I have my glycerin tablets.

Where is refill for screen wash/reservoir under hood on Alpha GTV (new 2nd hand car - no manual - no liquid)?

Sorry to bother experts with something so basic. But really enjoy my old Alpha; have tried to buy manual - but short term just want to be clear which of the re-fill bottles under the hood I should put screen clean liquid into (which symbols or a picture would help). Have a long trip to take next week and don't want to drive without ability to clear screen (and no time outside work to get it looked at)... thanks for all help offered.Where is refill for screen wash/reservoir under hood on Alpha GTV (new 2nd hand car - no manual - no liquid)?
Dunno about a GTV, but on a 156 it's a small blue cap poking out of the space between the engine coolant reservoir %26amp; the left hand side wing.

Try getting someone to operate the washers while you listen at the engine bay( engine OFF) You should hear the electric motor whirr, which should help you pinpoint the filler, which will have a diagram of a windscreen wiper 'arc' on it.

If all else fails, why not give your local Alfa dealer a call?Where is refill for screen wash/reservoir under hood on Alpha GTV (new 2nd hand car - no manual - no liquid)?
I dont have a Alpha but ive had many cars, and they normally had a windscreen wiper picture on the top of the lid of the container. If in doubt take all the lids off and see what solution is in them. Other than that go to Haynes online and type in the make and model of car and maybe they could help you.
I may be wrong here but I have a feling that it is on the right hand side right up against the wing towards the back. It's not apparently obvious because its only a small opening, probably with a blue cap, about the size of a 2 pence piece. Forgive me if I am wrong, I used to work for Alfa Romeo a few years ago and am going on memory alone. The picture will look like a screen shape with a sprinkle of water on it. Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Becks
I have a 156 GTA and I'd guess that it is exactly where evelynthemodifieddog has said it would be. You can, of course, always ring Alfa customer service!

Mothers Caranuba paste wax works well on it. But the best way it to take it to a professional Detailer and they can buff it out with a high speed buffer and some compound. Some one wrote on the hood of my car with their finger and when i went to hand wash it it was scrached?
heya i hated seeing new scratches on my eclipse if they are minor dust or hair line scratches try using Quixx Car Scratch Remover

its cheap u can find it in any auto parts store. if its a deep scry try a color buff at your auto paint store.
a little white polish compound and wet the area and wipe it /use a little liquid polish after the compound
try buffing it out with some car wax. wax usually does the trick for surface scratches

I just hand washed my car, but i didn't dry it. Will it leave water spots? I used my home hose....?

If it dries, and it leaves water spots, can i rinse it again and dry it with a chamois skin cloth or will rinsing it again strip the car wash chemical i put on it?I just hand washed my car, but i didn't dry it. Will it leave water spots? I used my home hose....?
If you have hard water, it will leave spots. The only way not to leave spots is to rinse with distilled water, or filtered water. We have a system on the UK market which does that, and it's very good.

Otherwise, it's out with the chamois, I'm afraid.

As for washing off the car chemical cleaner, if it's meant to be washed off, then it isn't going to come to any harm for a second rinsing.

Joy Harmon - Alive and 67 yrs. oldIn the movie ';Cool Hand Luke';, who was the woman in the car wash scene?
Fairly certain it was Joy Harmon.
Great movie........Im not sure if she is still around but she was born in Flushing, New York, Patty Jo Harmon was discovered as a guest on ';You Bet Your Life'; by Groucho Marx and later invited to work with him on ';Tell It To Groucho.'; The TV exposure parlayed her into forgotten roles in obscure films like Village of the Giants (1965) or top movies like Cool Hand Luke (1967) where she only played a pretty face. With only a handful of television appearances to her name, she made a bigger career as a pin-up girl during the late Sixties to early Seventies before dropping out of sight and settling down near Washington D.C.
Patty Joy Harmon, who retired from acting to run a bakery in Burbank.

She made an equal impression in the really silly ';Village of teh Giants'; two years earlier
i think Ann Margret and she is still alive

  • HELP! I hand washed my car using a dishwash sponge and now there's a white spot?

I know I wasn't supposed to use a dish wash sponge...but is there anything I can buy to get rid of the white spot? Is there anything I can use from Pepboys or autozone? I have a black car. Thank you!!HELP! I hand washed my car using a dishwash sponge and now there's a white spot?
Ah, so this is the real problem (at least three posts about it?).

At least the surface is clean so it will hold the paint better. Get the touch up paint from the auto parts store. It might turn out to be a chronic problem if the touch-up paint wears faster than the original paint, but it at least pushes a professional paint job further down the road.

As a kid, I once decided to scrub our tourquoise Corvair with brillo pads to surprise my parents when they came home from a weekend trip. I realized a problem when I'd 'cleaned' around a third of the car, but what could I do then except go ahead and finish the job. It didn't take all the paint off, but it was definitely a lighter, flatter finish. They were pretty puzzled, making comments like, ';I've never seen the car that clean before.';HELP! I hand washed my car using a dishwash sponge and now there's a white spot?
yes try color restore its a wax polish!

    GL TC :-)
sounds like mineral deposits from the water. A little light rubbing compund will take it right off, then some good wax. next time, use a shammy or good soft absorbant towel to keep those water spots away.
Dish washing soap usually strips the wax off a car not bad for the car, but not good if thats the only thing you use. I use it before clay baring and then waxing. Wash the car again with regular car washing soap. Try to buy some type of car polishing product and also wax. Wax stripper, or pre wax items fade the car's clear coat, polishing agents bring out the shine and then wax to help complete it.

    I a word...No.

You washed your hands. Then you dried them. Therefore you removed all the sperm from your hands.

Whether you're on a period or not, pregnancy couldn't happen from this.
No. Sperm will be washed off as any other bacteria would be when you washed your hands.

Now, do everyone a favor and never EVER have sex again.
no. unless you jerk a guy off, wash your hands, go in a car, let your hand dry, then have unprotected sex.
No...sperm's gotta stay warm (and at the perfect temp) to stay alive. I think it dies after just a few seconds if the temp isn't perfect.

by hand cuz i jus luv cars in general

..and how often do you wash your vehicle? thanks alot*Do you prefer an automated car wash,or take the wash wand in hand yourself?
I must admit that I'm pretty lazy when it comes to washing my car myself. I would much rather go through an auto-wash place.

Although it seems hardly worth it, since I drive to work on the hi-way 50km away from my home.

So by the time I get back in the evening (after driving a total of 100km that day) my car is just as dirty as before!Do you prefer an automated car wash,or take the wash wand in hand yourself?
my hubby washes the cars like every weekend
    hand wash it.
If I'm in a hurry, it's the car wash. Otherwise, I wash it every week myself.
I used to wash my car myself but not any more ..it really makes me tired ..maybe its because the cold weather ..

    to answer your question...

I prefer to wash my car myself but I actually havent for a long time !
I rarely wash my car. It's not that I don't love and respect my car (you listening carrie, I luv you baby) but it is very old, and I kind of think it doesn't matter. The paint job isn't of great quality any more. But when I do, I hand wash it in one of those little drive up deals.
Hand was only for me. Those automated car wash leaves brush lines on the car, not a good thing. I wash my car only when needed depending on the weather, sometimes it needs it daily sometimes, once a month
Automated....I was my car once or twice a week depending on the weather. I have it detailed every 3 months

By hand, because you won't miss any spots and the water is cleaner.

Can you machine wash a Britax car seat even though it says to hand wash? My baby vomited all in it.?

I've owned a Britax seat for 3 years now, and have washed the cover numerous times (we have a dd who gets carsick on any trip longer than 20 minutes).

Gentle cycle/handwashables cycle, cold water, and extra rinse if necessary. Dry on low heat or hang dry if you have time.

    My cover has never shrunk.

The main reason you aren't supposed to machine-wash covers is the flame retardancy. It can be washed out and they don't want that. I'd rather not have flame retardant chemicals on something my dd is all over, all the time, but that's just me. :o)

Harness straps cannot be machine washed at all. This is very important. The webbing can be weakened and may not restrain properly in a crash. Britax allows you to clean with warm water and mild soap, and you can swish the straps in water, but not soak them. Other manufacturers say to not even submerge the straps in water, to sponge-clean only. Can you machine wash a Britax car seat even though it says to hand wash? My baby vomited all in it.?
Yes, mine says handwash only, too, but because I know the reasons behind it, I feel quite comfortable washing mine in the machine. :o) A spare cover could be a good idea, too! Report Abuse
Can you machine wash a Britax car seat even though it says to hand wash? My baby vomited all in it.?
They make car seats that are not machine washable?
no way! It will shink and you know it was too expensive to ruin. Call them and ask a rep how best to handle this

heres the number 1-704-409-1700 and the website is britaxUSA.com

Also, mine is like microfiber so it can be handwashed with baby shampoo.
    try the gentile cycle

with a bunch of towles to prtect it. use less soap, and remove any thing that can be romove. remember the towles. do not dry it and use COLD COLD COLD water, if you use warm the material will shrink, as the dryed will do the same. lave it to dry in the ope of by a fan if you need it right away. some bras say hand wash. but i read that you can do this with some materials and fabrics, not all of course like the expensive delicate things.

    hope this helps.
I haven't washed a Britax car seat cover but I generally wash everything in the machine washer even when it says hand wash. I would just place it on the mildest setting (my old washer has a ';handwash'; setting as well as a ';gentle'; setting) and use cold water and the gentlest soap- I use woolite, and then make sure you air dry it and position the seat to dry it in the way you want it to dry. Like a sweater you don't want to fold a sweater when you dry it or it dries that way. Sure it is an expensive seat but you won't want to use it if you think it is still pukey, you will feel better about it if you know it is clean. The Britax company is trying to be extra safe in how they advise people to take care of their products. You bought the seat for the benefit of your baby, not for investment purposes right? So make it nice for your baby again.

I'm not sure if this will work for you or not,but you can't carry a lot of stuff on the bus so just be selective what you take with you . Get a bag and just take the rags, brushes soap and tire cleaner and cleaner for the interior. Just plan everything you will need to have. I would lower the price of the actual car wash since you will be using the water and hose at the customers house. Stress that by your washing the car at the customers home its less likely any damage would happen to the vehicle. Good luck, if you put forth an effort I'm betting you'll do well.

Tradition is why we wash it by hand. My husband's grandfather hand washed all the vehicles in the family (there weren't that many.) He was very proud. Now, my father in law washes all our families vehicles on the weekend. My husband who is now 40 has begun to want to wash our daughters first car.

For our family its tradition, but I think for most they like the power wash, underbody treatments, waxing and drying in under 5 minutes that a car wash has to offer!
No but my husband does. He also waxes it.
Nope. It must be one of the crappiest jobs. I just take it to the car wash.

Yes I have become that lazy.
I used to always wash my car by hand.

Now I don't wash it at all. It wastes too much water, and my car will get clean when it rains.

How can I stop my Car blotching after hand washing?

I handwash my car once a week in the shade with a hose and brush but almost everytime I leave it to try it streaks and some patches of dirt remain after it has naturally dried.

How can I avoid this? Would drying with a towel or chamois to prevent this? How can I stop my Car blotching after hand washing?

Mitt hand washed my black car and it left a million scratches. How do I fix this?

I used one of those car washing mitts to wash my black mustang, which JUST got a new paint job. I am so upset I'm about to cry. It looks horrible. Is there anything I can do to fix this or make it less noticeable? What if I were to put on another clear coat of paint, what would that do?Mitt hand washed my black car and it left a million scratches. How do I fix this?
The scratches were caused by the dirt on the vehicle. It was abrasive. Next time rinse the car first and wash out the mitt often to remove any grit you may have got on the mitt. Now for the paint I don't know how deep the scratches are and the vehicle may need to be repainted but there is things you can try. Rubbing compound may work but is quite abrasive in itself and can remove the paint so you should try polishing compound which is not as abrasive. Now with rubbing or polishing compounds I have found the cheap stuff is just that! Go to an auto parts supplier that sells painting supplies and get a high quality polishing compound. I would recommend 3m products that are meant to remove overspray after a paint job like Fill ' n Glase or Fitness it II. Theese are very high quality polishing compounds and are not very abrasive. Try polishing by hand even though it is a lot of work you have better control. If the damage is very bad you may want to try using a buffer with one of theese compounds and it will make a mess but may produce the desired results. I use theese for a lot of different purposes and almost always do it by hand and have great results most of the time! I use them to fix minor scratches, to remove overspray after painting, and to remove dead paint when a vehicle is faded due to oxidization. The polishing compounds I mentioned are not cheap but produce the best results and are a heck of a lot cheaper than a paint job. Trust me this is something you need to try!Mitt hand washed my black car and it left a million scratches. How do I fix this?
Hello,Gorgeous Do not worry, all is not lost.your mitt picked up dirt particles from the dirty water and you(sorry)scratched the paint on your car. This happens all the time, but is more noticable on a black vehicle,I know,I have a black truck.I used a product called Meguiar's swirl remover. You can use a buffer or your hands to apply.Follow derections on bottle. It might take more than one application, but its alot cheaper than a paint job. Also, stop using the Mitt, use a terry cloth and rinse the rag(cloth)before dipping in soapy water.Worked for Me,good luck.

How many folk still wash their cars by hand on a Sunday as opposed to going to car wash?

I do! I don't let anyone touch my car. It's because they do a terrible job, and most likely will scratch the car, because they don't know how to wash it properly.

It's not that hard to wash it, takes some time if you want to really detail it and stuff. They work on your car fast, and they don't use shammys to dry, but those white cotton towels i bet. i enjoy washing my car by myself but i cant seem to find a way to get rid of the water streaks...no matter how fast i try to do it...any tips or suggetions?Best way to wash my car by hand?
my procedure using a garden hose at normal house pressure.

    1. vehicle should be cool and in the shade

    2. a) 1 bucket method: fill bucket with water and soap

    b) 2 bucket method uses 2 buckets both filled with soap and water, 1 is used to rinse/clean the rag, the other is used to pick up clean soap..

you want to clean the dirt and grime out of your rag, while washing frequently to prevent mud or dirt in the rag from scratching the paint.

    3. I use a nice kinda thicker style micro-fiber rag to wash the car.

    4. Before washing car, rinse as much dirt and grime off the car.

    5. Thoroughly wet the car

    6. Wash sections at a time starting at the top and work down.

    8. While washing in sections thoroughly keep car wet, to prevent drying and water spots.

    9. When finished washing. I use a chamois to dry the car. I think you can use a 'terry' cloth also. Drying car by hand prevents spots.

    this.way.water.beads.up
See if there's someplace in your residence you can access ';soft'; water, it's less likely to streak. Wash in shade after the car's surface has cooled down (you should be able to hold your hand on the car, give it at least an hour), wash and rinse by section not all at once. Also do not use hand dishwashing detergent it is hard on the paint. When drying wipe down the horizontal sections first (hood, roof, and trunk), you have to dry those first because the water has nowhere to drain off, causing streaks.
i use the rainx soap with the carnuba wax in it. its blue gel with little bulbs in it. it works absolutely great and rinses clean. dry the windows first then the hood/roof/truck then the sides...good soap will make the world of difference. and its only like $6 at walmart

Car wash or hand wash, which does the better job?

if you are speaking of automatic car washes, stay away from them , the brushes they use will rub the paint finish off your car. wand wash is great to get the mud out from under the car. rust around the lower parts are caused mostly by a lot off mud that holds moisture . a hand wash with a gentle soap ( I like Ivory dish soap ) and a wool wash mitt is best.Car wash or hand wash, which does the better job?

What is the best way to wash a car by hand and not damage the paint finish?

The most important aspect of protecting the finish on your automobile is the way you dry it. Just as O_o mentioned, it is critical that you dry your car with a chamois leather. Never use a towel to dry your car. I own and operate a automobile dealership and have been detailing automobiles for over 18 years. We use a automotive wash %26amp; wax soap, similar to what you can purchase at the auto parts store, and a very, very soft bristle brush(commercial) to wash our cars. We frequently work with Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Just remember to always keep your soapy water clean, as well as, the mitt or brush that you using. Good Luck with the Care of your car. -ChuckWhat is the best way to wash a car by hand and not damage the paint finish?
    What ';ajw'; said BUT.

    THE MAIN PART.

A ';shammy'; it's spelled diffrent I think, but they are meant for cars and don't scratch the surface. What scratches cars are the towels you use to dry them, which makes that swirled scratched surface when you look at the paint. So you need.....

    ----

Meguiars Car Wash %26lt;--- Best brand I think.

    Shammy

And pick somthing up that you can use to apply the soap and water.

That's it. Trust me, I have 3 spotless rare cars that I wash myself, not a single scratch, except when I backed into boxed in my garage but, that doesn't count. =DWhat is the best way to wash a car by hand and not damage the paint finish?
Like the guy above said but use like a soft setting on your hose nozzle and like car shops sometimes sell hand washers that is like a glove that you put on so you can do it softly and poor the liquid in like a bucket and add water then put the hand glove in and wash.
A car wash detergent type liquid is sold at all auto parts stores and about any where like Walmart or Target. It will not take your wax off when you wash the car.
As stated above and also use a lambs wool glove especially made for carwashing not just any rag.

Do you hand wash your car or machine wash? Any harm in hand washing your car? According to this article.....?

Hand washing will damage your cars paint and finish. Do you think it is true or do you think it is just a marketing scam?

http://www.kaady.com/investment.htmlDo you hand wash your car or machine wash? Any harm in hand washing your car? According to this article.....?
that's hogwash!, there just trying to promote their car wash, if you keep wax on your paint your not going to harm it one bit hand washing it as long as you use a clean sponge and start from the top and wash down and rinse thoroughly.Do you hand wash your car or machine wash? Any harm in hand washing your car? According to this article.....?
You are going to get a lot of different opinions on this. I can just tell you my experience. If you are going to hand wash use a soft cloth and rinse the car thoroughly before you start washing the car with the cloth. Wash the car top to bottom leaving the wheels and tires for last. Rinse the rag very frequently and change the water if the car is very dirty. Grit is the enemy here. You do not want to scratch your car by using a dirty cloth. Use a good soap made specifically for washing cars as well.
Its a scam. Hand washing a car is not bad as long as proper tools are used with it.

I work from home and park at the end of lots, scratches show up on car after hand car wash, did they do it?

    Title says it all.

Basically I RARELY park my car in a lot with other cars near it. I park my car in my driveway at home (and work from home). When I go to the health club, I park my car at the back of the lot, where nobody else ever parks.

I brought my car to the hand wash. 7-8 guys work on it at a time. I get home, close my door, and notice two deep scratches on my drivers side, one on each door. They were ones that look like would happen if a piece of dirty got caught in a sponge and spread across.

I called up, and the owner was somewhat nice. She said that she thought my car was probably very dirty and the scratches were there already. I disagreed (it wasn't that bad). They tried to remove the scratches but they are still there, just not as visible.

The workers do a good job on the cars but are somewhat rough and routinely rub against them when they are drying it.

Does it seem likely that the scratch was made at the wash? Or was already there when I brought it there?I work from home and park at the end of lots, scratches show up on car after hand car wash, did they do it?
    No one will ever know

unless one of the workers admit to scrating it

Bad luck soorryI work from home and park at the end of lots, scratches show up on car after hand car wash, did they do it?
they always drop the rag and pick up bits they clean the tyres with the same cloth avoid them
it could be the guys at the wash but more than likley its from lots or maybe even animals that just love your vehicle i no how bad that sucks. sorry
nope, other cars can park and leave before you, so it could be that those scratches are from parking lots.
I would say they picked up some road grime on the towel they were drying the car with and scratched it. Very easy to do. Sand is very abrasive. To the comment about the car parking and leaving before you . Dumb! I supose after they scratched one side they pulled back around and scratched the other so it would match huh? You seem very into your car so you would no. Go with your first thought. I would bank on that answer
  • facial wrinkles
  • Do you really need to hand wax your car or is the car wash?

wax they spray enough?Do you really need to hand wax your car or is the car wash?
The spray wax at the car wash is useless. it does nothing but suck some coins from your pocket, same as the drying agents, degreaser, etc. it's all crap from that car washes. The brushes also ruin your paint... never use those either.

A hand wax is the best choice in this case, but it also needs to be applied every couple months, wax does break down. you could go with a sealant and get 6 months to 1 year out of it. but a wax is only good for 6 weeks usually.

What I would look at is the condition of the paint in the first place, are you just convering up scratches? or would you rather spend some time and actually remove the scratches? that is an entirely different question. It is worth looking into though, see what you can do to your car's finish.Do you really need to hand wax your car or is the car wash?
If you want to protect your finish, you should always hand wash your car AND hand wax.

The drive-thru is good to remove some of the surface dirt, but is painfully inadequate to remove any of the stubborn soil.

On top of that, you should consider putting 2-3 coats of a good quality wax on whenever you wax, and also consider using a clay bar or other contaminant removal system between the wash and wax to ensure you don't bed the contaminants into your paint with the wax.
For a really great finish, no, the spray wax isn't enough. It doesn't coat very well, and the real secret to a great looking shine isn't just the wax, it's the prep and the maintanence of the paint. There's a write up on the five step process for detailing the paint here: http://www.squidoo.com/showcardetailing
that wax at those car washes is,nt very good. that,s just a fast wax if your going someplace important and you want a shine. it,s best to use the kind you put on with your hands.
I think the ';spaywax'; just slides the money out of your pocket and that's all. Get some good wax and take your time hand waxing the car.
    Enough maybe

Do you pay TIP when you go to Hand car Wash?

I am working in hand car wash in vancouver.

This is one of the busiest place in Vancouver, and the price isn't cheap

    at all.

It costs small ';clean'; car for like at least $27 without tax.

People pay, of course, more for trucks.

I wash so many expensive cars everyday.

End of the day, I get only max $5 after working like a dog for 8 hours.

I can't really ask customers if they leave tip or not.

Do you usually leave tip for hand car wash employees?

    Thank you so much.

oh yeahh definently.. i went a couple of days ago to an non hand car wash... they only vaccuumed it nd rubbed the soap around tht came from the machines but they did a good job nd the cost was $15 and i tipped them a $5! but $5 at the end of the day total is completely lousy! demand a tip!Do you pay TIP when you go to Hand car Wash?
I don't know if I'd tip for a $27 car wash or not! Maybe not! I do tip for an $8 wash, about a buck or two depending on the service. Someone is making WAY BIG MONEY charging $27, way too much actually, so I understand why you aren't getting tipped. Perhaps the solution would be to check out cheaper car washes and see if the employees don't get more tips....you can't work any harder, and might end up with more at the end of the day. Are you paid over minimum wage? Perhaps that's where some of the $27 is going??
Most people tip after getting their car washed.

I don't know what's going on in Vancouver as to why your tips

    are so low.
    yes

How much money would YOU pay to have your car hand-washed?

I'm thinking of doing Car-Washing for a charity and to earn a profit but me and my group arn't sure how much to charge per car. I think about 拢2.00, but my other friends think either 拢3.00 or 拢5.00. What do you think? How much money would YOU pay to have your car hand-washed?
If its for charity you could defiantely get away with 10 US dollars. How much money would YOU pay to have your car hand-washed?
Sorry but I don't think this should have been voted as best answer because 1. IAM NOT AMERICAN AND U SHOULD HAVE KINDA GUESSED THAT BECAUSE OF THE WAY I WROTE THE MONEY

    2. 10 US DOLLARS IS LIKE 拢5.00 AND THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH HERE, U PROBOBLY DON'T KNOW THE KIND OF PLACE WE ARE DOING CAR WASHING. Report Abuse

拢2 is not enough! A wash is a wash no matter who is doing it. A lot of supermarkets now have guys from what i presume is a franchise (as they all have the same sort of wheeled cart with water tank etc on it) washing cars in their car park while you shop. They say 'from' 拢5 but if you present them with a family size estate with a mucky back end the fiver becomes nearer a tenner.

How much would I pay? Actually i would not, i quite enjoy giving my cars their once every 4 months wash! (had a white Toyota Camry a few years back and one day my wife pointed out that the last time i had washed my now grey Camry was for my mate Clive's wedding. He had been married for nearly 6 months at the time!) That is what rain is for, to wash peoples cars while they drive. lol

The thing is with hand car washing, to make a good job you need a lot of water.

I certainly would not do a fixed price - lot more work washing some yokels mud encrusted Range Rover [well, i do live in the country] than a nice retired ladies' never been out in the rain Micra.
Offer the service at different levels 拢2.50 for a small car, 拢3.50 for large or estate cars and 拢4.50 for a people carrier or jeep.

Never charge whole pounds (eg 拢3, 拢4, 拢5) or you wont make any money in tips, If its 拢4.50 people will give you the fiver and let you keep the change!
拢2 is to cheap,拢3 is ok but for 拢5 people can get a full car wash and polish in a garage but as it,s for charity people will probably pay you 拢5
I would charge 拢3.50. That way, it's a bit in between. 拢2.00 is slightly on the cheap side, and if you put a sign up saying it's for charity, you should get more customers.

    Hope I helped!
i normally pay 拢5.00 for the outside..

if you could get a hover etc.. you could easally charge 拢10.00 for inside and out..

    good luck! xx
5 dollars. You can get started whenever you are ready.
$15.00 or five pounds. What does an automatic car wash charge for (exterior only)?

Charge the same. It is for charity after all.. Good luck.
    i live in canada and they're usually between $5.00 - $10.00

if its for a good charity ill usually spend $10.00 but if its just for a hockey team or sumthin like that id only spend $5.00
in the US I pay 20$ per wash on my car, which is interior and exterior, wheels and the works.
Depends on your neighborhood, but if it's for charity, I'd pay 5 bucks.
you could probably get away with 3 or maybe even 5. but 2 sounds too low though.
if your not pro i think 5 pounds is reasonable because you would have to pay for water and equipment
    3-5
Depends on the area you live in. I charge 拢8.

Just got back from a hand car wash, and there are four scratches on my car. Underneath the dirt? Or complain?

So it's below zero where I live, so washing the car on my own isn't an option. Actually, once it goes under 25 it's not.

I haven't had it washed in a couple weeks because we got a lot of snow.

So I just get back and lock at my drivers side door, and there's a 3 inch scratch. I look at the passenger side door, there's a 2 inch scratch. These are VERY obvious.

My car wasn't filthy before I washed it, but it was dirty. Is there a chance I didn't see these scratches? Or should I go back and complain?Just got back from a hand car wash, and there are four scratches on my car. Underneath the dirt? Or complain?
There obviously is the chance that the scratches were under the dirt and you didnt notice them, or that the car wash did them. Most likely they will deny culpability, but if you're persistant, they might buff them out for you. Address the issue with them. They are responsible to take ';due care'; when they wash your car.Just got back from a hand car wash, and there are four scratches on my car. Underneath the dirt? Or complain?
complain because with scratches u would have seen them

How to pay Hand Car Wash Employees? (minimum wage or tips in Chicago,IL)?

I am in the process of opening a hand car wash scheduled for spring of 2010 (Chicago, IL), and I have read conflicting reports on how I need to go about paying employees. Do I have to pay them at least minimum wage, or can I pay them as waiters/waitresses do and that is by the tips system with them only receiving $2-$3 per hour? I want to know the legality of all this as it will drastically change my 3 year projections. I am currently using an $8/hour rate, but if they work on a tips system, my labor costs will drop by 60% and put that much more money to the bottom line. Please advise. Thanks. How to pay Hand Car Wash Employees? (minimum wage or tips in Chicago,IL)?
As long as you pay them 60% and they make the rest in tips you are golden.....

  • Working in a hand car wash?

I am working in a hand car wash. Some days i have to clean the rims and shine the tyre's. For that i have to sit and stand continuously, for 1 car i have to sit and stand 8 times. 2 times for each tyre, once for the rims once for the tyre shine.

So i was wondering what should i keep in mind when working like this, I wouldnt want to hurt my back or anything in this situation. Feedback needed on this asap.

ThanksWorking in a hand car wash?
Good question. Be mindful of your posture, bend at the knees not at your back when reaching down to the wheels. Stretching exercises at the beginning and end of your shift would help, too. Maybe even try stretching a couple times in between.

How do you wash a car by hand?

Ive always washed my cars at the machine where you do it yourself, but now I want to start washing my new car by hand because I hear its supposed to be better.

If I want it to look really nice what should I:

    Buy?

    Order of washing?

    How to wash?

By the way it is a convertible should I was the top if its made of canvas or whateveer that canvas like material is?

Thanks ^^)How do you wash a car by hand?
Buy liquid car wash detergeant, wax, a large ';chamois'; (real leather), a wheel brush, large white terry towels, a bucket and large sponge.

Wash the car in a semi shaded area.

Rinse the car off completely with a hose end sprayer.

Fill the bucket with water and add car wash detergeant as spec'd

Immerse sponge in bucket and wash each panel thoroughly.

Rinse off each panel when done washing

Use the wheel brush to scrub the wheel grime off the rims and tires

When done, again rinse of the entire car.

Wet the chamois down so that it is damp and flexible. Wring it out.

Use the chamois to dry off the car. It will act as a kind of squeegee. Wring the chamois dry frequently.

When the car is clean and dry, wax it.

Apply wax with the supplied applicator to one panel at a time. Let it dry to a haze. When dry, take a large white terry towel and buff off the haze.

You are done and your car will look great.

I personally prefer Meguiers wash and wax products, they are very high quality and easy to use.

AstrobufHow do you wash a car by hand?
Well, use a soft brush, you can use soap and water (dish soap is fine), and start from the top of the car and go to the bottom. to dry it, use a microfiber cloth. It should be no problem washing the top, it's made to be waterproof, so there should be no problem. if you want to wax the car, use turtlewax ice or some other product (can be found at Autozone). wash the windows with windex, unless the window's are tinted, then make sure that there is no ammonia in whatever you use
I always wash my cars manually during summer and fall and the quality is much better compared to automated ones.

You will need a long hose with an adjustable nozzle, a 5 gal. bucket to hold your light detergent solution, a soft sponge (preferably with a handle to reach the upper areas and some cotton rags.

First mist-spray the whole body to soften the dirt. Mix some small amount of detergent in a 4 gal. volume of water. Apply the detergent using the sponge in a circular motion, careful not to press firmly as dirt is abrasive. Leave the tires last as they are more dirty.

Now you are ready to rinse and remove the dirt by spraying with water, more water. Adjust the nozzle to increase the pressure and flow. Remember you need to remove the detergent as well. When done, dry with cotton rags. Presto, your car is clean and ready for waxing after about an hour of drying outside.
the way i do it is i get a bucket and fill it with soapy water, wet the car down and take a sponge and start on the roof first, rinse it off before it dries then do the same with the rest of the car.then i dry it.
water soap a rag cant get much easier

    type into search box

how to hand wash a car
I agree with Astrobuf's answer, and I'll add a few comments:

Old 100% cotton terry towels are great, but don't use poly-cotton blends like old t-shirts because they can scratch. Wash the rags after you wash the car. Don't use a brush on the paint; brushes can trap sand and other debris that will scratch the clear coat as you drag the brush across the paint.

Don't use dish soap, as another user suggested. Use a product made for cars. I like to use a car wash soap that has wax included, so I get the protective layer of wax without having to wax in a separate step. Waxing your car when it's clean reduces the amount of dirt that sticks, so you can go longer between washes with a waxed car.

You might not want to use a product with wax on the fabric top, though. My truck has a tonneau cover, and the manual recommends not waxing it. Maybe your car's manual talks about washing the convertible top. You may need a brush to clean the fabric, and you might want to consider buying a product made specifically for convertible tops.

Order of washing: Start at the top of the car, which is the least dirty, and work your way down. There is a lot more road grime and dirt toward the bottom of the car, so you don't want to swipe the rag across that dirt and grime and then drag it across the hood where it will leave little scratches. Rinse frequently, keep the car wet, and rinse your rag frequently to avoid dragging dirt across the paint.
Some things to have are 2 wash mitts, 2 buckets, tire brush, a wheel cleaner safe for aluminum wheels if you car has them, a car washing soap (i prefer Meguiars products). Do not get car soap that is wash and wax in one, it doesnt work. Also get a good car wax, I prefer paste wax but you can use what you want. Commit one wash mitt and bucket to the top half of the car, The second for the lower half of the car and the wheels. Label the buckets with a sharpie so you dont get them mixed up. Also if you can lable the washmitts. I usually start with the wheels first. Most cleaners wont work as good if the wheels and tires are wet. Spray the cleaner on the wheels and wash the wheels with the mitt. Scrub the tires with the tire brush. Rinse wheel well first then rinse wheel and tire. I do one wheel at a time.

After your done with the wheels, dump the bucket that you washed the wheels with and make 2 new buckets of water, one for the top, one for everything below the door molding if you have one (half way down the door) That is where most of the dirt is going to be. Just wash top to bottom. Rinse frequently if it is hot outside, you dont want the soap to dry. Dry car with a chamois, i like the man made kind the work better for me. When the car is competely dry, start to wax. Apply a thin layer of wax, do small sections at a time. When the wax is dry buff with a soft terry cloth or soft cheese cloth. After waxing, clean windows with windex or another type of glass cleaner.

Sorry if i am long winded, just trying to help!!!

Is it better to wash your car by-hand/manually or going to the carwash?

I have a car and i usually take it to the car wash once every few months. but are there any benefits of washing the car yourself? of course it's cheaper but more time consuming and a lot of hard work....but how about the car? does the car get cleaned more effectively? does this serve any benefits in the long-run?

all opinions/suggestions/answers are appreciated. Is it better to wash your car by-hand/manually or going to the carwash?
A hand wash will usually get a vehicle cleaner than an automatic wash. Also, there is less chance of damaging the vehicle when you wash it by hand - car washes are known for taking out antennas and mirrors.

The only real positive about car washes is that it is easier and quicker. Is it better to wash your car by-hand/manually or going to the carwash?
Touch-less car washes can only get the car clean to an extent. They are hard about getting off brake dust on the weals and are always hard about getting in the Little cranny's. Washing by hand is harder but the job is so much better. Rince the viehicle off well before washing and always use clean cloths and rinse the wash mitt periodically. Always use a descant cleaner remember you always get what you pay for.
Taking your car often to the machine car wash reduces the shine and color on the car.

Washing you car at home save you but not as clean

    Time +effort + detergents = bad investment

Therefore i suggest you wash your car at those manual car wash

Where you pay a few dollar but get to use the Gurney. You can be in and out in less than 15 mins.

You should give it a try
You will get a much better clean if you do it yourself. A car wash can damage the paintwork over time.

Another good thing, is that it gives you a bit of a work out, helps you keep slim and desirable.Though, looking at your picture, I might come over and clean it for you. You don't need to try and be more desirable
I have always hand washed my cars. Better cleaning than with any automatic car wash, more work but worth it in the end. NEVER use dish soap as that will strip away any wax that has been applied. Use a good quality car wash soap. Get one of the liquid waxes from Maguires or Mothers as they are easy to apply and the technology has improved over the years, they are easy to wipe on and off.
I always wash my car by hand for the past 6 years. It isn't hard if you wash off the soap as fast as posibble after you scrubed or it'll stain and make streams of stains. Wash it with regular dishwash soap but mix that with water in a bucket way more cheaper yet efficient.
Washing the car yourself/by hand is better than using the machine, because using machine may not be so clean as the outcome is, and secondly you may scratch your vehicle just because there is dust, soil or sand stuck on your vehicle body.
it depends if you go to a perfesional place then yea it will be clean but think about it whats so hard about washing your car its not to hard and if you put hard work into it it will come out clean to
If you are being environmentally friendly I would say the old bucket of water and sponge method is the best by far.

Plus it's cheaper, is good exersize and can be very sexy! depends who's watching ;)
men usually like to wash their own car as they grow attach to it.

However as for me, I like to go to the carwash as its easier and faster!
better to clean by hands.....good execise too.....effective clean by hands....in the long run your car looks beautiful %26amp;clean,site for sore eyes....

You just reminded me, i MUST get my car washed!!!!

Last year, i lived on a farm that had a half-mile long muddy, bumpy track and sometimes got stuck in the mud ugghhh!! So i never saw the point in washing it only to get it all thick with mud the next day!!

However, I don't live there now, and have got out of the habit of washing my car. Although it is so much cleaner than it ever was even going months without a wash!. Last time i washed it was just after i moved from the farm last Autumn and i took it through the car wash (it was inches thick with mud).

I prefer the car wash. I wonder if it's cheaper than washing by hand if on a water meter? I dunno really. But i never seem to find the time or inclination to wash my car by hand. There's always something to do in the house first!!!If you have a car when did you last wash it, ? hand or car wash?
I washed it about 2 weeks ago and I always wash my car by hand.

Overall it's more expensive so that's why you get people to buy you the materials for birthdays/christmas etc haha.

If you do it by hand and you know what you are doing then hand wash is always 10x better than the car wash... Or you can pay the Bosnians to do it, they do a very good job because there are 5 of them doing it at the same time :).
    Last weekend - by hand.

Normally put it through a ';hand preparation'; followed by auto car wash.

    OK, you asked ...

    1. Find a shelter out of the sun on a calm day with little dust in the air

    2. Locate a warm water pressure washer

    3. Get some Meguire's car wash and a spray bottle

    4. Spray down your car with the Meguire's mixed with water

    5. Let it soak in for 5 minutes

    6. Using a pressure washer, wash off the car.

At this point you have hopefully removed the larger contaminates on the paint surface.

    7. Using a new, clean sponge, wash the top of your car using the car wash.

    8. Rinse

    9. Wash the hood of your car.

    10. Rinse

    11. Wash the trunk of your car.

    12. Rinse.

    13. Now starting at the top of the fenders work your way down about 2/3rds way and go around the car.

    14. Wash the remaining third around the bottom of your car.

    15. Wash your tires and wheels last.

The idea is that during the washing process anything (rag, sponge, etc.) used will accumulate dirt. You can't simply rinse the rag or sponge and remove it. This microscopic debris acts as sandpaper on your paint. The larger the particles, the worse the scratching. Larger particles tend to be on your tires, wheels and lower portions of your vehicle so you should wash them LAST.

After you are through, throw away the sponge!

Dry with a clean, preferably new, 100% cotton towel in the same order you washed it.

One more hint: When cleaning the plastic covering on your instrument panel first use a camera lens cleaning brush in conjunction with a vacuum to remove the dust. Most covers are acrylic and scratch extremely easy. Be aware than some cleaners will attack acrylic.
wash hands. avoid grease. wash car. dry with towel

Do you hand wash your own car or take it to a car wash?

hand wash when it's warm, car wash when it's not.Do you hand wash your own car or take it to a car wash?
Hand wash. The car washes are never thorough enough to get the dirt off every nook and cranny. Also, the brushes they use in the car washes may sometimes leave swirl marks on your car's finish. Also, for the price of a car wash, you could buy yourself all the supplies you need to hand wash your car for 2-3 months...minus the water. If you have access to a driveway and a hose, I'd save the money and wash it myself...especially with the weather getting warmer too. Of course, it will require some elbow grease on your part but doesn't it look that much shinier when you've cleaned it yourself?Do you hand wash your own car or take it to a car wash?
I run it through the Car Wash after work, $4 economy style then take it home buff it and hand wash it.

I'm wacky like that. Don't cheap out on the soap you buy Turtle Wax brand is good and Makes a huge difference over by cheap soap. Ya just like dishes and clothes.

  • What is better for your car, auto car wash or hand washing?

HAND WASHING IS ALWAYS BEST Its always best to hand wash than to use the damaging high pressure at a auto car wash.

High pressure is not always bad though. Its always a good thing to use the high pressure to wash the undercarrage of your car to remove salt and other debris from your car. Once in a while a fast run through is ok but not all the time. It dont get it nearly as clean as the old fasion hand bath and chammis dry. Looks a lot nicer. Once a year a good buff and wax never hurts either. Good luck,

How much can a ';HAND CAR WASH MAKE';?

you have to be wayyy more elaborate. If this is like a donations event (school cheerleaders) vs. actually having a business (where like staff show up and wash and wax cars then...

with your car go to a place and just find out their rates and see how many cars come there (some people are obsessed about keeping their car cleaned. And where I'm at it's $20 to get the inside and 10 to get the outside but there are so many levels. Like getting the tires cleaned is extra using a scent for the inside like coconut is extra....)

if I owned one, I'd hire cute girls or guys pay them $7 an hour and they'll get the rest (maybe earning 10-12 bucks an hour) through tips. And you know people looovvvveee to give tips to cute people. Hate to break it but we made bank when I helped fundraise at my school years ago.)

    what? Sex sells.

Thumb this! What advice can you guys give me on starting a hand car washing business?
Starting a car washing business in your neighborhood is actually pretty easy. If you have someone who you know very well that would let you clean their car and give referrals, than you're all set. Just make some flyers on the computer, advertising what areas of the car you clean, what products to use (Meguiers and Mothers is the best) And list your prices and obviously name and phone number.

    Do's and Don'ts

-Wash car from the top down ( this prevents grime from the bottom from getting on the cleaner part of the paint and scratching it)

-Wash in a fast pace, but thorough too.

    -Be courteous of their belongings

Also, make sure not to charge too much. I charge $10 for a basic exterior and $10 for interior. If they want wax, I add $5. My exterior contains, wash windows, tire shine, chrome/black trim polish. Interior includes vacuum, trim and dash cleaner, and interior windows. Shampooing is extra $5. Good Luck!!!

How much should you tip people who hand wash your entire car?

Generally speaking, a tip is a gratuity, something you do not owe because you paid a fee for the service. Assuming you were charged a fixed amount for the car wash, the tip should be about 15% of the amount you paid if you are satisfied with the job they did. You may want to tip 20% if you feel they did an excellant job or nothing if they did a lousy job. It's just like tipping in a restaurant. So if you paid $20 for the car wash, you would tip about $3, if you paid $10, the tip would be $1.50.How much should you tip people who hand wash your entire car?
I guess it depends on how much it cost you. I think a general rule of thumb is $5-10.How much should you tip people who hand wash your entire car?
If they dty it as well, probably 5 bucks.

Am i better off washing my car by hand or should i go to a car wash???

I have a toyota matrix (wagon). I am considering the cost of the water i use from my home hose and the cost of going to the car wash (which costs $5). Which one do you think is better? Reasons?Am i better off washing my car by hand or should i go to a car wash???
I work at at car detailing shop and my boss owns a car wash right next to the detail shop. The car wash is great for the people that don't have time to wash their car by hand or the people who are to lazy to do it. But my boss always made a point that washing a car by hand is the best thing for it. It gets a lot of the dirt and grime off the car, that a car wash can't. I watch cars come out of the car wash and they come out good, but not as good as they could if they were washed by hand.

It also depends on how frequently you wash your car. If you wash it once a month then I would deffinetly recommend by hand, but if you wash it once a week then a car wash would be just fine. Make sure you put a fresh coat of wax on the car as well about every two month, it will make washing the car that much easier. A hand wash is always better.Am i better off washing my car by hand or should i go to a car wash???
cheaper to wash it at home and you can do a better job.
it's better u hand wash ur car bc if u go to a car wash that can actually start chipping away at ur paint. i get my car hand washed for 10 dollars once a week by someone. if u do decide to wash it urself and ure worried about water usage try not take a long time washing ur car or keep the water turned off when ure not using it.

  • Hand car wash or machine car wash?

which is better and why?Hand car wash or machine car wash?
A Hand-Wash is by far the most thorough, and you can keep track of any problem areas on the car's paint.

But touchless automatic car-washes are a god-send in winter weather. Is gets the chucks off the finish, but more importantly, the undercar spray gets salt and other snow melters off the undercarriage.Hand car wash or machine car wash?
A hand wash is the best as long as you use a good detergent like Meguairs. Never use dish washing liquids as these will strip the wax off your paint and dry out the paint. Wash the car from top to bottom and wash wheels first so you dont blow grit back on the clean car. A laser wash is okay if it's to cold to wash by hand, but dont use the old brush washes as they can scratch your paint.
    hand,

because you can actually scrub off all the dirt

the touchless ones dont get all the dirt off

and the ones with the scrubbers just cause scratches
Hand car wash before age 45 and machine wash thereafter.

Try looking up cleaning systems, best thing to do is make fliers for the car wash business, and go to business parks. Also do not hire people to wash the cars unless you are there. Word From The Wise

What are some advantages of washing your car by hand instead of using the car wash?

Well, when you wash a car by hand, you can vary the pressure of your rubbing and spend more time on problem areas. You can also apply different types of waxes and polishes in a better way. There's also a much lower risk of bending your radio antennae, if you have an outside one. It's also an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. You can also say, ';I did it'; when someone compliments you on your car. What are some advantages of washing your car by hand instead of using the car wash?
there is always a chance of getting the paint scratched when you use a car was as well as smashed mirrors and the like, but the water is recycled at a car wash and if there is and liquid that makes it through the filters it then goes on your car and could affect the finish in the long run due to that and to the pressure the equipment uses to wash the car. Better to wash by hand or even a quarter car wask, or half dollar car was is it now. lolWhat are some advantages of washing your car by hand instead of using the car wash?
    - it's cheaper

    - you use less water (that is if you was with a bucket and sponge)

    - you care more for you car so less damage

-it can be a fun activity with the kids and a sexy one with you significant other (wink wink) if you know how to make it one...
you burn calories, other than that none, just make sure you dry it yourself.
It's cheaper. You will know what products are being used on your car. I suspect that carwashes use pretty harsh products to remove the dirt and grease so quickly. You will be more careful.
Saving money by doing it yourself, little extra excercise If you put your back into it, I don't know why u asking?
Saves money..keeps u fit..Makes the environment cleaner..Of course your hands are also cleaned simultaneously
More thorough cleaning (I think). No risk of breaking wipers/mirrors (I had my parking mirror smashed two weeks ago by a car wash). You get to choose what products to use on your car, and finally, it probably is more eco-friendly- yes you heat the water, but the car wash will use far more electricity!
Well, i would say that one of the main benefits is, Car Washes quite often scratch the paintwork off of your car.

If you wash it by hand, this is unlikely to happen.
washing by hand-1) cheaper, unless you pay someone else to hand wash it.

    2) details- you are less likely to miss spots and have a cleaner car ,if you hand wash versus driving through a car wash.

    3) if you don't have alot of time to exercise, then this activity is great for your heart
    Cheaper

You probably get it cleaner because you take more time

You decide what products to use

    Gentler on the paint work

You dry the glass properly (no streaks) and clean it inside as well.
Washing it by hand takes more time, thus, you can be more detailed, and lets face it,a car wash can only blow off so much, doing it by hand you can scrub off the stuck on things
    its more active
None that I know of. Other than wasting your time and effort. I'll pay 10 bucks to get my car washed. My water bill will be more than that if I do it myself.
it's ';free'; - unless you have to pay the water bill...and if your time isn't worth much!
    Exercise and money!!!!
i don't know , i was gona ask the same question right now .

    i have a black car .

What is the best way to hand-wash a new car (black) without scratching it? Checklist of supplies?

I'm not going to lie, this is my first brand new car. I've always run my car through car washes and never really taken the time to wash it myself.

The dealer said not to run it through a regular was for 30 days.

What am I going to need to ensure I wash my car without scratching it?

What are the best name-brand items? What is the best way to hand-wash a new car (black) without scratching it? Checklist of supplies?
Hate to break it to you but the primary ingredient in dirt is silica or sand like dirt. The best part of preparation is the initial rinse. This washes off anything loose, dust, bugs, dirt, sand, and sets you up for fewer scratches then just diving in with the mitt and soap.

I like the ArmorAll car wash soap. It looks blue(ish) and is thick and leaves a very nice finish. DO NOT use dish soap as this strips away the shiny finish and leaves a flat finish. Just slosh the wash mitt in the wash bucket frequently to wash the dirt or dust off the mitt. I use a 5-gallon bucket since they are deeper and this gives you more water and room for the dirt to settle to the bottom and not go back out on the mitt. Wash the bottom or lower half of the car last. Wash the tires and wheels dead last. Use stiff brushes on the tires and a soft brush around the wheels.

When you finally get around to a wax job, like a year from now, I prefer those once a year ';waxes'; like NuFinish (use two coats). They leave a very good barrier between the elements and the paint or clear coat and it's easier to rinse off the dirt before you begin the actual wash.

Otherwise, scratches are inevitable since we live on a dusty and dirty planet. If you leave the car in the garage at least half a day this will limit the exposure to dust or dirt that can settle on it at night time. Especially when there might be dew on the car in the morning as this gives the dust something to stick to.

I do not recommend automatic car washes. They really strip the finish (shine) and you get all the dirt from the other 1,000's of cars that went through before you and dirtied up the brushes. They are good for taking off the logo's and antennas, too.

Good Luck! What is the best way to hand-wash a new car (black) without scratching it? Checklist of supplies?
i have a custom truck with a very valuable paint job and i use the mr.clean car wash system and a very soft and clean wash mitt. The system uses a filtered rinse so you at least don,t have to touch the car to dry it
A little dish soap and water with a soft terry clothe

    Wash in the shade

Use a carnuba soft wax to wax it. Most wax is good. Make sure the wax is designed to be removed AFTER it dries or you will be in a world of hurt.
Mother's products, and Meguire's are two brand names I have had good luck with.

My best advice is to use Turtle Wax car wash solution which leaves a waxy finish. It comes out almost as good as a real wax job without the time and effort of waxing it. I am sure there are other product companies that have the wax finish so I suggest trying one. I too own a black car, and another peice of advice is to buy some terry cloth towels, or microfiber towels, andyhting that soaks up water without leaving lint behind, and drying your car right after you wash it. This will eliminate water stains which show up extremely well on black cars.

Another tip on the car wash solution is to use a regular kind first, then go over it again with the waxy finish wash. In my experience the waxy finish makes it shine at the end, but is not at as good at getting dirt and grime off initially as the regular kind.

Hope this helps. good luck, dont give up on black cars, they are a pain to keep clean, but look so incredible when they are!
use aspoonage and some liquid car wash soap
go buy yourself a new bucket and sponge and leather.(not synthetic)

a good wash and wax liquid.(turtlewax)

    a good wax polish.(turtlewax)

fill bucket with hand hot water adding wash and wax at three quarter so it mixes well.

run out hose and thoroughly hose down car to remove all loose grit, sand etc.

sponge car down with wash and wax using hand pressure. press a bit harder for stubborn bits.

    rinse and leather down.

using two soft cloths(wax on wax off) polish car one panel at a time.

do this on a regular basis and as the wax layers build on the car it will be easy to keep clean and will look new for a long time.

never ever run your car through a carwash as this is the best way to ruin the paintwork.(just look at the cars of those who do)

    drive safe everybody.
well, if my bf was here, i could tell u what to use and what te best chemicals u should and should not use. all i know, a black car is the most beautiful color for a car, but also te hardest to keep clean. my bf spends about 2 to 3 hrs just waxing the damn thing. thats not including washing it, drying it, wiping down the inside, vacumming the inside. scrubbing the tires/rims. omg!!!! so much stuff. im glad im a girl.
def do not run through a machine carwash.. stay out of the sun and gently wash it with worn out bath towels with a small amount od dawn dishsoap. never let the rags touch the ground and alway rinse heavily...
